In the second flute part for the tudes in Book 1 of Ernesto Kohler’s flute method presented in this edition， the composer Werner Richter has created many new playful elements and has not simply provided a mechanical semiquaver accompaniment. Richter’s composition succeeds in clarifying the functional relationships in Kohler’s music and making enjoyable performance possible through some surprising ideas.
