| 解説 | 2016年にサウス・バークス・コンサート・バンドの創立40周年を記念して委嘱された作品です。 このバンドはイギリスのモーティマー村で活動しており、同地で毎年開催されていた「モーティマー・レヴェル」という祭りに着想を得ています。 この祭りは活気に満ち、時には騒々しく混沌とした雰囲気で知られていました。 スパークはその情景を音楽で表現し、エネルギッシュで多彩なムードを持つ序曲として作曲しました。 （出版社のオリジナル解説） Highdays and Holidays was commissioned by the South Berks Concert Band to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2016. The band rehearses in the village of Mortimer， which has a long and fascinating history dating back to， and beyond， the Bronze Age. Mortimer is famous for The Mortimer Revel， an annual event which was apparently a fairly rumbustious and sometimes violent affair. Highdays and Holidays seeks to capture some of this festive event in the form of an energetic overture， which explores a variety of moods including the somewhat chaotic atmosphere of the Revel. |
