| 解説 | オーストラリア陸軍軍楽隊創設40周年を記念して2008年に委嘱された作品です。 タイトルは、南緯40度から50度の間に位置する「Roaring Forties（吠える40度線）」と呼ばれる、強風が吹き荒れる海域に由来します。 冒頭のファンファーレとコラールは、オーストラリア陸軍軍楽隊（AABC）の頭文字を音に置き換えた動機に基づいており、作品全体にわたって展開されます。 中間部の活発なヴィーヴォでは、AABCの連隊行進曲「The Minstrel Boy」が引用され、最後は再びファンファーレとコラールが再現され、壮大に締めくくられます。 （出版社のオリジナル解説） This new work by Philip Sparke was commissioned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Australian Army Bands Corps. “The Roaring Forties” is what seamen call the region between the 40th and 50th degrees of latitude in the southern hemisphere (due to the boisterous and prevailing westerly winds). A fanfare， chorale and an energetic vivo all capture this untameable region. |
